the sun was rising and everyone was heading in their apartments like good little breeders did. which made her mad. she knew many of these people very well and they all wanted to rebel, but none of them had the guts. but aaliyah had the guts and it wasn't the first time she went against the rules. 'im doing my own thing, its my life.' she thought as she walked into her apartment and walked out the back. for being all big and bad they weren't bright. giving the bottom apartment to a girl like aaliyah was not a good idea. after knowing aaliyah for eighteen years you would think they learn. she walked out on the small porch that she had and jumped over it and landed a little wobbly on the ground.
she raised her arms for a few seconds and let the morning coolness blow over her as she breath in and wrinkled her nose. you would thing that aaliyah would be use to the smell of dog, and more importantly wet dog. some of the shifters must have went swimming. she shook off the smell and kept on walking. even though she was out of the breeders houses, she was still stuck inside walls. she hated being inside walls and not able to get out in the real world. aaliyah wondered what it was like. but quickly stopped thinking as it was painful, and she hated thinking about what she didn't have.
she made her way to the sports fields. she wanted to kick a soccer ball around, or do some flips in the gym on their mats. or dance if she could find a place that had music. aaliyah loved dancing, she loved gymnastics and soccer. mostly aaliyah just liked to be active. she liked to be on the move she liked doing something always. it was a good morning. it took her about an hour to get to the sports fields. aaliyah kept taking little side trips, playing in the streams that she found. another thing about aaliyah is that she loved water, and anything to do with it. it was so good for you so why wouldn't you love it. it was about ten when she finally made it to the rec area. she looked around and headed into the gym.
she smiled as she didn't see anyone around and headed towards the part of the gym that was covered in mats. she kicked over her colorful flip flops and ran to the mat, when she hit the mat, she did a head dive toward the ground and put her hands down as she did a flip and twisted in the air and landed on her feet. she put her hands out beside her and spun around and fell to the mat and landed on her back as she looked up at the ceiling. she felt free when she was doing something she loved. it was a good thing the shifters were so competitive because they made each others breeders compete to see who had the better breeders. maybe that is how they matched up people to breed. maybe aaliyah will get matched up with a sport junkie that could be good aaliyah might actually like the person she is suppose to make babies with. aaliyah was brought back to earth and out of her thoughts when she heard a noise. she sat up quick and looked at the open door way.

Aah, sunsets. Normal human beings might find them enjoyable. But Skye wasn't a normal human being, was she? As a matter of fact, she wasn't human at all. So, the second the sun hit the horizon, she was left flailing on the ground, screaming as pain wracked her body. When that was over, all she could do was lay on her back for a moment, working to regulate her breathing, and mutter, "Thank God." Seconds passed and all the pain subsided. Skye rubbed her brow, shakily sitting upright. ... Oh great. She was right in front of the shifter cave. And stark naked. Nobody was back yet, but who knew what kind of Ember might be lurking in the dark, just waiting to use this evidence to vote Skye out of the colony? Which, hey, she wouldn't mind, but she would be forced to sneak into a breeding dorm and steal her younger brother, then explain to him what she was and do her very best not to bite his head off during her transformation. ... Bother.
Clothes. Where the flying sausage did she leave her clothes? Switching into panic mode, Skye rolled over onto her knees and scanned the clearing around her for any sign of the outfit she'd brought specifically for this. Seeing a pink giraffe, Skye nearly danced for joy. She dove over to the bundle, unfolded her clothes, and dressed as quickly as she could. She lifted the hat to put it on her head, but it felt heavier than usual. Brow furrowing in confusion, Skye reached into it. Her fingertips brushed something cold and metal. Well, not metal, actually. It was aluminum. Skye beamed. She hadn't forgotten to pack her favorite beverage in the world, Dr. Pepper. Cracking the can open, Skye sipped as she walked over toward the wall surrounding the colony. Oh fudge. They were going to stop her at the gate if she didn't have her ID card. Skye fished through her jeans pocket until she found it, then slipped it into the reader. Phew. That was close. The doors swung open, and she strode through.
Looking down at herself, Skye decided she was due for some exercise. And what better place to exercise than the gym? She and the god of sodas made their in the building's general direction, passed the breeding dorms, sports fields, and pool. The pool was starting to look mighty inviting, but Skye would save that for the afternoon, when the weather got a bit nastier. Besides, there was a treadmill in the gym calling her name. Skye gave her belly fat a playful smack. "That's right," she said in a mothering tone. "You're about to get burned. Yes you are!" Pushing the doors open, Skye stepped inside. Only, her foot got caught on the door, and she ended up tripping. Sensing she was pitching forward, her shifter instincts kicked in. Skye tucked her head and rolled with gravity, landing in a very Spiderman crouch after executing a dive-roll. Needless to say, she'd left a trail of Dr. Pepper, and the can in her hand was almost empty. Skye straightened up, marched over to the door, and gave it a mighty kick. "You owe me a new can of Dr. Pepper!" she demanded. Then she turned back to the gym in front of her.
.. And there was a blond in the room, staring straight at her.
Skye's eyes widened like a deer in the headlights. "Um," she stammered. "Uh... hey. Didn't... see you... there..." Trailing off, she mentally cursed her klutziness. Then she realized. The girl didn't smell a thing like shifter. "No offense," Skye began, "but what the hell are you doing here?"

aaliyah sat up and quickly looked at the doorway. she watched as she could see a girl trip, but was impressed the way she caught herself. aaliyah sighed as she realized the girl was a shifter. even though she didn't know why she got her hopes up to think it would be anything else then a shifter. because not many other humans came here during the day. well no humans came here during the day. it was filled with them at night, but at night humans didn't have to worry about running into annoying shifters who thought they were better than anyone else. aaliyah just stared at the girl as the girl stared at her.
aaliyah didn't take offense to what the shifter had to said as she got that kind of thing all the time. this wasn't the first time aaliyah wasn't were she was suppose to be. so she was use to the tone she always got. aaliyah rolled her eyes and put her weight on her hands. "Working out, doing flips, the normal things you do on a mat." she said with a smile. she said it in a slightly sarcastic tone, but not as sarcastic as she normal was. she normally would have said, "well what does it look like, as i am sitting here in work out clothes" but aaliyah didn't she just told her what she was doing. now
aaliyah really wanted to ask her the same question. this shifter really didn't look like she was dressed to work out. "I could ask you the same thing. Your not really dressed to work out." aaliyah said as if she was talking to someone she knew. her voice sounded very chill and not at all worried that she was looking at a shifter. again she wasn't very afraid of them. why well she could never really tell you. growing up around them helped a lot though.
aaliyah sat up and crossed her legs as she took the weight off her hands. shook them a bit as they were slowly falling asleep. "So..." aaliyah said slowly. not saying much when you don't really know them. well to aaliyah it was just plain awkward. plus with who she was aaliyah loved to talk. it was something she couldn't hide, but in this situation she really didn't know what to say, let alone what to do. she looked at the mat she was sitting on and really wanted to get back to gymnastics and other things.

The blond rolled her Skye and shifter her weight to her hands. Honestly, Skye had to appreciate her sarcastic response. She and sarcasm were two peas in a pod, so this stranger was a girl after her own heart. She chuckled. "Really? And here I thought you were fly fishing or something." .. See? Skye would continue with the sarcasm in order to keep the blond from leaning toward the topic of her not-so-dramatic entrance. She slurped up the last of her Dr. Pepper as the blond returned Skye's question with one of her own. Having the same capacity for memory as a godlfish, Skye had to look down at herself to recall what she was dressed in. Jeans. Hm. Not appropriate work-out attire. Oh well. She was pretty sure she could walk on a treadmill without tearing them and/or hurting herself. Skye offered her companion a friendly smile. "I'm not much of a gymnast. More of a walk-in-place-ist."
Without awaiting a response, Skye brushed past the girl, headed for the treadmills in the back. She hopped on the first one in the line and started it up, setting the speed at fifty-seven right off the back. She was a fast walker, whenever she managed to stay vertical. No longer in need of the can of Dr. Pepper, Skye aimed for the glass window in the door she'd just tripped over come through. She let the can fly with a bit more force than necessary, and it shattered the pane. "Bull's eye!" she cheered, raising both arms straight above her head and somehow managing to keep her balance on the exercise machine at the same time. Somebody would find that broken window later and report it to higher authorities, most likely. Skye figured she'd leave the Dr. Pepper can there. Then, there would be no question as to who had committed such an act of vandalism. Anything to piss Ember off and get herself in trouble.
Her blond companion, being a very verbose person, muttered an awkward, "So...." "Buttons on your underwear," Skye responded promptly, the smile still on her face. Catching the way the girl looked at the mat she sat on, Skye added, "Hey, you can keep doing your flippy things," with a dismissive wave of her hand. "If you're not planning on taking a knife or glass bottle to my family, I couldn't give two shits about why you're here. Just as long as you didn't see my uh... little... episode there." Shrugging, Skye upped her pace. She started humming her favorite song ("All the Right Moves") under her breath and bobbing her head to the mental music.
